Cleaning experts have explained that white vinegar is key to removing this chalky white substance on shower heads.
White vinegar is one of the simplest and easiest ingredients for removing any limescale build-up from a shower head.
They said: “Soaking shower heads in a solution of white vinegar and rinsing with water is the best way to clean your shower head and get rid of limescale and mineral deposits.
“We would advise you to fill a plastic bag with vinegar and leave shower heads to soak for up to an hour, covering all holes. This allows it to dissolve limescale sufficiently.
For this hack households will need a clean cloth, fresh water, an old toothbrush, a plastic sandwich bag and of course white vinegar.
Start off by unscrewing the shower head and placing it inside the sandwich bag, making sure the shower head fits.
Then add the vinegar into the bag, ensuring that the entire head is entirely covered by this acidic solution. The experts noted that it is important households are using white distilled vinegar rather than malt.
Next up, leave the shower head soaking in the bag for up to one hour.
Once the time is up, rinse and clean the shower head in fresh water, brushing off any remaining limescale with the toothbrush and wiping it down with a cloth.
Of course, for those who don’t have any vinegar in their cupboard, an alternative method to clean shower heads would be to use a household cleaner, which contains similar ingredients.
